About Chitralekha
Chitralekha group of publications was started way back in 1950 by VajuKotak, a journalistic legend of his times. The group’s flagship magazine – Chitralekha Gujarati, came out with its first issue in 1950. Since then, Chitralekha has gone on to become the favourite weekly of the largest, arguably the most affluent and the most conspicuously consuming community in India, the Gujaratis.
For over 71 years, Chitralekha has been keeping this community informed about news, events, culture, stories and more…. unfailingly every Friday of the week. It continues to be the largest selling magazine in Mumbai & Gujarat, across periodicity or language.
Over the years, many serialized novels from Chitralekha have been successfully converted into television serials. Chitralekha’s longest running satirical column, Taarak Mehta’s ‘Duniya Ne Undha Chasma’ has also been produced as a TV serial on SAB TV and is one of the highest rated programs on television.
Chitralekha magazine is available in Marathi as well, which has fulfilled the socio-political literary needs of the Marathi manoos since 1989. The Group now covers a large gamut of target audiences at varied psychographic and demographic levels, using high quality printing technology, a completely in-house computerized pre-press to printing set-up and excellent quality paper. Chitralekha has created a reputation in both the minds of the readers as well as the advertisers.
Chitralekha has Digital presence through various platforms – Chitralekha.com, Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc.), Magzter, Dailyhunt, etc. Through its digital presence, it reaches to over 2.5 million Gujaratis across the world, and majority of who are below 34 years of age.
Apart from magazines and its digital present, the group has also diversified into events. We are also proud to share, that our 60th anniversary celebrations concluded in 2011 with the release of a commemorative postal stamp on the group and its founder, by the former President of India Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
