About Chitralekha

Chitralekha group of publications was started way back in 1950 by Vaju Kotak, a journalistic legend of his times. The group’s flagship magazine-  Chitralekha Gujarati, came out with its first issue on April 22, 1950. Since then, Chitralekha has gone on to become the most favourite weekly of the largest, arguably the most affluent and the most conspicuously consuming community in India, the Gujaratis.

For over 73 years now, Chitralekha has been keeping this community informed about news, events, culture, stories and everything that matters to humankind. On every Friday, the Gujaratis, living across the globe, have a tryst with Chitralekha. Chitralekha continues to be the largest selling magazine in Mumbai and Gujarat across periodicity or language.

Over the years, many serialized novels, first & originally published in Chitralekha have been successfully converted into television serials. Chitralekha’s longest running (nearly four n half decades) satirical column, Taarak Mehta’s ‘Duniya Ne Undha Chasma’ has also been produced as a TV serial on SAB TV and is one of the highest rated programs on television.

Moreover, Chitralekha’s one of the most popular columns ‘Prabhat Na Pushpo’ has now been made available in audio format, in the voice of well-known announcer Harish Bhimani. A series of philosophical & inspirational articles, written by Vaju Kotak, proved to be timeless pieces; which are now reaching out to the younger audience through this.

To mark with the time and demand, Chitralekha has now created its own niche in the online publishing world. Its digital platform not only keeps the readers informed about news & current affairs, but it also enriches & entertains them with analysis, quality content & videos on variety of subjects.

Through its website and social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and content aggregator platforms like Dailyhunt, it reaches to more than 2 million people. Its digital footprints also tells about its demographics and shows that majority of its readers/viewers are below the age of 35 years.  Chitralekha’s digital platform has now become a preferred choice for credible content for the Gujarati readers.

Chitralekha print and its digital platforms have created a reputation in the minds of the both-its readers as well as the advertisers.

Apart from magazines and its digital present, the group has also diversified into events. Chitralekha organised over 50 Investor Awareness programs with BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange) and Aditya Birla Mutual Fund, Musical Concerts in Gujarat with celebrities in the likes of Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghosal and Sunidhi Chauhan; on ground contests like Mrs. Gujarat and Chitralekha Everest-Colors Gujarati Recipe contest, and Chitralekha Person of the Year.

We are also proud to share, that our 60th anniversary celebrations concluded in 2011 with the release of a commemorative postal stamp on the group and its founder, by the former President of India Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.

Chitralekha is a brand that is trusted and respected for its content and values, and it binds Gujarat and Gujaratis like none other.
